Movements

Movements are used to plan and manage the movements of a consignment.


Type
Description
Sea transportThis is a journey by ship
Air transportThis is a journey by plane
Express CourierThis is routed through a third-party express parcel carrier
Road Trunk RouteThis is a scheduled road journey between 2 locations controlled by your organisation
Road Collection & DeliveryThis is a scheduled road journey between 2 locations controlled by your organisation
Road Collection & DeliveryThis is a journey where the consignment is collected and then delivered without being handled at another location
Road CollectionThis is a road journey to collection a consignment and enter it to your logistics network
Road DeliveryThis is road journey to deliver a consignment to its end point on your network
Road Container Haulage
This is a road journey for moving a shipping container from location A to location B
Road Multidrop
This is a road journey for the multidrop service consignments and can be used in in conjunction with multiple mutlidrop movement for both collection and delivery.


Movements are made up of the following information: 
  • A carrier
  • An origin
  • A destination
  • Cut off dates
    • Documentation
    • Loading
  • Transport Details

All movements require an origin and destination locations.

The movements for containerised freight are organised slightly differently that non-containerised freight.


There is a road freight plan for each container. You can witch between the plans using the dropdown at the top of the screen. This will show the:
  • Container Number
  • Container Type
  • Freight Reference

Automatic Build

Once you have entered the following information on the instructions tab, CocoonOPS is able to build a movement plan for the consignment:
  • Consignor or Collection address
  • Consignee or Delivery address
  • The ports the consignment will transit if it’s air or sea freight
  • Attach freight to the consignment
Idea

The more complete information that you can enter the instructions tab before building the movements, the completer and more accurate a plan can be produced automatically.

The Movement Planning Robot attempts to construct a movement plan using a series of rules.

Info
When CocoonOPS attempts to identify and address from the address book automatically based on address roles, if an address cannot be matched, the location will be left blank on the movement plan and one will have to be manually selected.

How Movements Are Automatically Built

Road FTL Freight

Mode: Road
Load Type: 
FTL

Full load is fulfilled by using a single Collection & Delivery movement.

The origin will be the collection address (Collection instructions or Consignor)

The destination will be the delivery address (Delivery instruction or Consignee)

Road Multidrop Freight

Mode: Road
Load Type: 
FTL

Service Type: Multidrop

Multidrop service consignments are fulfilled using multiple multidrop movements that are able to do both collection and delivery.

The first location on the movement plan will be the collection location from the instructions tab if one is set.

The origin for each movement will be taken from the collection address for the freight items on the freight tab.
The destination for each movement will be taken from the delivery address for the freight items on the freight tab. 
The last location on the movements plan will be the Delivery address from the instructions tab if one is set. 
Domestic Road LTL Freight

LTL

Domestic

The typical movement plan for this type of consignment is via a sorting depot.

A collection movement will be created with the origin as the collection address (Collection instruction or Consignor) and a destination of a sorting depot.

A delivery movement will be created with and origin of a sorting depot and destination as the delivery address (Delivery instruction or Consignee).

The sorting depot location that is the destination of the Collection movement and the origin of the Delivery movement will be automatically picked from your organisation in the address book. The address used will be one that has the Sorting Depot role and is in the same country as the origin.

If there is more than one sorting depot in the country, 2 sorting depots will be used and a road trunk movement will be created between them.

International Road LTL Freight

Mode: Road
Load Type: 
LTL
Route:

The typical movement plan for this type of consignment is via 2 sorting depots.

A collection movement will be created with the origin as the collection address (Collection instruction or Consignor) and a destination of a Sorting Depot A.

A delivery movement will be created with and origin of a Sorting Depot B and destination as the delivery address (Delivery instruction or Consignee).

Between the collection and delivery movement, a road trunk movement will be created between Sorting Depot A and sorting Depot B.

Sorting Depot A will automatically be identified from your organisation in the address book. Where the address has the role Sorting Depot and is the same country as the collection.

Sorting Depot B will automatically be identified from your organisation in the address book. Where the address has the role Sorting Depot and is in the same country as the delivery.

Courier Road Freight

Mode: Road
Load Type: 
Courier

A single Courier movement will be created.

The origin will be the collection address (Collection instructions or Consignor)

The destination will be the delivery address (Delivery instruction or Consignee)

Sea Freight

Mode: Sea

The movement plan is based on the service that is selected on the instructions tab.

Sea freight movements will be created between each pair of ports that are entered on the instructions tab. Starting at the Port of Origin, ending at the Final Destination Port, and calling at all transit ports that are entered.

If the service selected on the instructions tab starts with Door a collection movement will be crated. If the freight is containerised the movement will be container haulage.

If the service selected on the instructions tab end with Door a delivery movement will be created. If the freight is containerised the movement will be container haulage.

Air Freight

Mode: Air

The movement plan is based on the service that is selected on the instructions tab.

Air freight movements will be created between each pair of airports that are entered on the instructions tab. Starting at the Port of Origin, ending at the Final Destination Port, and calling at all transit airports that are entered.

If the service selected on the instructions tab starts with Door a collection movement will be crated.

If the service selected on the instructions tab end with Door a delivery movement will be created.

Planning Mode

Before the consignment is confirmed, planning mode is available on the movements tab.

This allows you to drastically change the movement plan. This includes:
  • Adding or removing movements
  • Adding or removing locations
  • Change a location on the plan

Alert
Change to the movement plan in planning mode are not saved until the plan is saved


To enable planning mode, click on the [ PLANNING MODE ] button on the movements tabe.


Once you have finished with the changes to your movement plan, click on the [ SAVE ] button at the top of the page.

You abandon the changes you have made in planning mode by clicking the [ CANCEL ] button at the top of the page.


Notes
When editing the plans for containerised freight, you must save the plan before switching between containers to ensure your changes are not lost


Managing Movements

Movements can be added to the movement plan by clicking and dragging the movement you want to add, from the right-hand side of the screen onto the position on the plan.

Movements on the plan can also be move by clicking and dragging them to a new location.

To edit the properties or a movement, right click on it and select the [ Properties ] option.

Idea
 You don’t need to be in planning mode to manage the properties for movements

You can remove a movement from the plan by right clicking on the movement and selecting the [ Remove ] option.


Managing Locations

Locations can be added to the movement plan by clicking and dragging the [ LOCATION ICON ] from the right-hand side on the timeline.

Once on the movement plan, a location can be dragged into the desired position on the plan.

You can select/change the address of the location by right clicking on the location and selecting the [ Change Location ] option. This will present you with the address book dialog box. Select the organisation and then the address and click the [ SELECT ] button.

You can remove a location by right clicking on it and selecting the [ REMOVE ] option.


Live Mode

Live mode is where movement properties are edit when not in planning mode.

To edit the properties or a movement, right click on it and select the [ PROPERTIES ] option.


Date Versions

All movement dates have three versions:
  • Planned
  • Estimated
  • Actual

The planned version is update before the consignment has not been confirmed.

Any subsequent change to the date after it has been confirmed will update the estimated version.

You can set the actual version of the date by right clicking on the movement and selecting one of the following options, then setting the date:

CollectedShipment was collected from the consignor or collection location
DepartedShipment departed transit point (port, airport, rail depot or cross dock location)
ArrivedShipment arrived at a transit point (port, airport, rail depot or cross dock location)
DeliveredShipment was delivered to the consignee or delivery location
RefusedShipment delivery was refused at the delivery location
You can then use the live properties to update the actual date and time using the properties dialog.
