Emissions

CocoonOPS ONLY estimates the GHG emissions at the point the consignment is confirmed!

CocoonOPS will communicate with CocoonCarbon® to estimate the emissions of the consignment and what would be required to offset them.

  • WTW (Well-to-Wheel): This refers to the total lifecycle emissions of a vehicle or fuel, encompassing both the production and consumption stages
  • TTW (Tank-to-Wheel): This focuses solely on the emissions produced during the operation of the vehicle (i.e., while the fuel is being burned or the energy is consumed). It excludes upstream emissions from fuel production and distribution
  • WTT (Well-to-Tank): This refers to emissions generated from the production, processing, and transportation of the fuel or energy source up to the point where it is stored in the vehicle (the "tank"). It covers the "upstream" emissions part of the fuel lifecycle

The carbon emissions we provide is Wheel to Wheel (WTW) unless specified. We follow GHG Protocol Framework and aligned to GLEC ISO 14083 standards

Distances are based on the following

  • Airfreight: Great circle distance (GCD - Also known as direct distance or ‘as the crow flies’)
  • Roadfreight: Google Maps API for Freight routes
  • Seafreight: We use tradelane data API

The Carbon balance is the difference between the co2 emissions and the co2 offset

To make the balance position you need click the  button. This will open a light box where you can enter the information of how you offset the emissions.

If your using Voluntary cancellation certificates (VCC)/Certified Emission reductions (CERs) you can enter the certificates information into this area.

Manually Requesting GHG Estimates

System admins can manually request the GHG Emissions to be re-estimated.

This is done by:

  1. Selecting the menu on the instructions tab
  2. Clicking the Request GHG Emissions menu option

The system will queue the request to estimate the GHG emissions and they will be updated once the request has been processed, this is normally done within a few minutes.
