Multidrop Consignments

Multidrop Consignments

Multidrop consignments allow you to manage multiple collections and deliveries.
This is typically used where a single vehicle is utilised by a single customer and the freight charges are billed on a single invoice.

Enabling Multidrop for a Consignment

To enable the multidrop movement functionality for a consignment, the following has to be set on the instructions tab:
  1.  Transport Mode: ROAD
  2. Load: FTL or GROUPAGE
  3. Service: MULTIDROP

Start and End Locations

You can set the Collection and Delivery locations on the instructions tab and they will be used as the Origin and Destination for the vehicle on the movements tab.
This is not required.

Freight Origin and Destination

For multidrop consignments, freight groups added to the freight tab have collection and delivery parties.
This can include references.
If no collection address is selected and a collection address is entered into the instructions screen, the instructed collection party is used for the freight collection location.
If no delivery address is selected and a delivery address is entered into the instructions screen, the instructed delivery party is used for the freight delivery location.

Idea
For clarity, it is recommended that the collection and delivery address be entered against each group of freight items.

When editing freight groups for a multidrop service consignment you will be able to select the collection and delivery address from the address book.

Once the collection and destination address has been entered against a group of freight, it will appear as bellow.

Notes
Changing the collection and delivery addresses for freight will not automatically update the movement plan once it has been built

Multidrop Movements

Multidrop consignment movements are built using the following rules:
  1. The first location in the movement plan is the collection address from the instructions tab. if attached
  2. The last location is the movement plan is the delivery address from the instructions tab, if attached
  3. Any freight groups that do not have a collection address selected will use the collection address from the instructions tab, if attached
  4. Any freight groups that do not have a delivery address selected will use the delivery address fro the instructions tab. it attached
  5. The system will build movements between the first and last locations on the movement plan, where the freight is picked up or dropped off at the locations using the minimum of movements.

Each location on the movement plan will show a summary of the freight to be picked up and the origin location (shown before the movement) and the freight to be dropped of at the destination location (shown after the movement).
Each location may have one, many or no freight to either pickup or drop off.
This is shown below.

You can use planning mode to change the order of the movements.

Consignment Updates

When a multidrop movement movement departs the origin location, the consignment status will update to IN TRANSIT

When a movement departs a location with a collection, a Multidrop Collection event is triggered.
When a movement arrives at a location with a delivery, a Multidrop Delivery event is triggered.

These can trigger workflows.

Typical Use Cases

Some typical use case scenarios for multidrop consignments are:
  1. Multiple deliveries to different locations from a warehouse for a single billable party
  2. Multiple collections from different location to a warehouse for a single billable party
  3. Groupage long distance tucking service for multiple LCL shipments
  4. Delivery to a single location followed by collection from the same location and subsequent delivery to another location
